For parents of U10 to U19 rep basketball players in Ontario Basketball clubs, 2026-27 season. Covers age categories, registration and rosters, tryouts, one-team and OSBA rules, transfers, call-ups, playing time, coach requirements and how to report a concern.
Rep age eligibility is determined as of December 31, 2026. A child is in a category if they are under that age on that date:
| Category | Year of birth |
|---|---|
| U10 | 2017 or later |
| U11 | 2016 or later |
| U12 | 2015 or later |
| U13 | 2014 or later |
| U14 | 2013 or later |
| U15 | 2012 or later |
| U16 | 2011 or later |
| U17 | 2010 or later |
| U19 |
| 2008 or later |
Teams that break the age restrictions face sanctions such as forfeited game scores, competition disqualification or club-level penalties. An athlete also becomes ineligible for OBA-sanctioned competition once they officially join a post-secondary basketball program.

For 2026-27, the individual registration deadlines in Ramp are:
| Group | Deadline |

The 2026-27 manual does not set tryout dates or selection criteria for club rep teams. It does set these roster rules:
Selection for Ontario's provincial teams is separate and is governed by the OBA Athlete Selection Policy, which applies only to provincial teams.
Sources: OBA Rules and Regulations Manual 2026-2027, sections 3.2, 3.3, 4.4; basketball.on.ca Athlete Selection Policy.
Ontario Basketball's rules limit this. The manual defines the OSBA (Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association) as a high-performance league for scholastic teams, typically high schools or prep programs, that operates separately from club rep basketball.
The 2026-27 manual does not address other school sport programs.

Only through an approved transfer. Under section 5.3 of the 2026-27 manual (which covers the OBL, the Ontario Basketball Championships, sanctioned games and tournaments, and G-Elite):

Call-ups (section 4.5):
Teams playing up: a team may, with approval from the tournament host and Ontario Basketball, play in one sanctioned tournament at an older age group. A team that plays more than one must play at the higher age level for the rest of the season, including at the Ontario Basketball Championships.
Mixed teams: boys and girls may play on the same team in every age category, but the team must compete in the boys' division.

At U9 to U12, every registered child present at the game must play. Coaches are required to provide playing time for all players present who are registered with Ontario Basketball, for the entire game, in OBL games, sanctioned tournaments and the Ontario Basketball Championships.
A game is eight four-minute shifts (two shifts make a quarter; U12 OBLX games are four eight-minute quarters). For regular U9 to U12 OBL games, the minimum and maximum shifts per player in regulation time are:
| Players on roster present | Minimum shifts | Maximum shifts |
|---|---|---|
| 15 | 2 | 3 |
| 14 | 2 | 3 |
| 13 | 3 | 4 |
| 12 | 3 | 4 |
| 11 | 3 | 4 |
| 10 | 4 | 4 |
| 9 | 4 | 5 |
| 8 | 5 | 5 |
In OBLX U10 and U11 games the participation rule applies to shifts 2 to 7; shifts 1 and 8 and overtime are open substitution. Equal participation does not apply from U13 up.

Two technical fouls (section 8.10):
U13 to U14: four 8-minute quarters, equal participation does not apply and substitution follows FIBA rules. When a team leads by 20 points or more, its players must drop back into their backcourt behind the eight-second line once the losing team has player control in its backcourt. Shot clock use is as directed by OBA.
U15 to U19: four 8-minute quarters (10-minute quarters in the OSBA). A 24-second shot clock is mandatory. Equal participation and the drop-back rule do not apply.
Overtime periods are four minutes long at U13 to U19.

Under the OBA Rules and Regulations Manual 2026-2027:
Before the first practice, every coach and manager must have:
NCCP certification by level:
| Level | Head coach | Assistant coach |
|---|---|---|
| U10 to U12 | Certified Learn to Train | Trained Learn to Train |
| U13 to U14 | Certified Train to Train | Trained Train to Train |
| U15 to U19 | Certified Train to Train | Trained Train to Train |
A team whose coaches or managers do not meet the certification standards faces removal from all OBA-sanctioned competitions. Only staff assigned to the roster in Ramp may sit on the team bench. Coaches must also sign a coach contract, and every player must sign an athlete contract agreeing to follow guidelines consistent with the OBA Code of Conduct and Ethics.
