For fans of Suncorp Super Netball (SSN), 2026 season rules of the game. Covers the Super Shot, timeouts, rolling substitutions, match length, extra time, finals format and points.
An SSN match is 60 minutes, made up of four 15-minute quarters. The interval between quarters is 5 minutes, except half-time (between the second and third quarters), which is 15 minutes.
The season has 14 rounds, with the eight SSN clubs playing each other twice, home and away. The top four teams after the home and away rounds advance to the finals series:
In the home and away rounds:
| Result | Points |
|---|---|
| Win | 4 |
| Draw | 2 |
| Loss | 0 |
The Super Shot is a two-point goal. A Super Shot scoring zone is marked on every SSN court and is activated at set times during a match, shown in the venue by audible and visual signals.
Only the Goal Shooter (GS) or Goal Attack (GA) can take a Super Shot. For two points:
All other requirements for scoring a goal follow the World Netball rules.
The umpire signals a successful two-point shot by raising both hands straight above their head and saying "two (2)", so the bench officials apply the right score. The reserve umpire stands during the Super Shot period to help umpires award the goal correctly.
If the value is miscommunicated:
Apart from this process, the controlling umpire's decision on the value of a Super Shot goal stands, with no right of appeal or query by any team.
Each team can request two 90 second timeouts per half. The 90 seconds is a set period, not "up to" 90 seconds.
Rolling substitutions are permitted in all SSN matches, and play is not held for them.
During the regular season, a match tied at the end of regular time goes into extra time:
In finals matches a draw is not allowed. If scores are still tied at the end of extra time, Extended Extra Time applies:
The Policy & Guidelines for the Management of Sport Related Concussion for National Programs and SSN apply to all SSN matches.
If a player may have a concussion or serious injury and cannot or will not call a time out, or it may not be seen or heard by the umpire, the team bench (through a primary carer) or the Match Day Doctor can alert the reserve umpire and call an injury time. The World Netball Rules of Netball apply and the player must be substituted.
If the player is cleared after assessment under the concussion policy, they can return to the court through a rolling substitution, another time out, new injury time or an interval.
