Rolling substitutions are permitted in all SSN matches, and play is not held for them.
- The substitute stands wholly inside the team's substitution zone (a 4 metre by 1 metre area along the edge of the court) to show a substitution is to be made.
- Before leaving the zone, the substitute tags the departing player with their hands.
- Players must observe the offside rules entering and leaving the court and must not interfere with the umpire's movement. The sanction is a free pass where the ball was.
- After a goal, other than when substituting a centre, the substitute must not enter the centre third until after the centre pass has been taken. The sanction is a free pass where the ball was when they entered.
- A player leaving the court must return to the team bench.
- There is no limit to the number of substitutions, but one substitution must be completed before the next substitute enters the zone, so a team cannot make several at once.
