For alpine ski race officials, technical delegates and club officials in Canada, 2026-27 season. Covers official levels, certification and renewal, who can fill each race role, technical delegate duties, insurance, timing and scoring protests.
To be recognized as a certified Official you must:
Membership includes Certified General Liability insurance while you are involved with race competitions, events or activities and working within your certification level.
The national alpine officials' program has four levels of Officials. After Level 1, each level requires specific practical experience before you move on:
The initial period of certification is three years for Levels 1, 2 and 3, and two years for Level 4. After that, you must meet practical requirements to keep your level:
| Level | Minimum requirement |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | Activity as an Official |
| Level 2 | 4 race days in a 3-year period, and an update every 2 years |
| Level 3 | 4 race days a year, and an update every 2 years |
| Level 4 | 4 race days a year at Technical Delegate or Chief level (or to the satisfaction of the Official Chair), and an update every 2 years |
The update is at the discretion of the PTSO Officials Chair. Officials who do not meet these criteria lose their official status and are removed from the Officials List.
The national program has four levels of Technical Delegates alongside the four Official levels:
For FIS races, the National Competition Rules 2026-27 list these qualifications:
Non-FIS speed races
Non-FIS technical races
Under the National Competition Rules 2026-27:
All protests related to scoring (Alpine points) must be sent to the ACA Officials Working Group at officials@alpinecanada.org. The Technical Delegate must confirm that the points calculations use the correct values.
Yes, in two ways.
Ski Quebec Alpin has a separate CGL policy from the ACA policy.
Under the National Competition Rules 2026-27:
A technical timing report is recommended to be reviewed by the Chief of Timing and the Technical Delegate.
For non-point races, the National Competition Rules 2026-27 recommend following the usual organization structure, with an assigned Technical Delegate and a Jury. They accept that this is not always practical at grassroots level.
Instead, the rules recommend using Technical Advisors: Level 2 and higher Officials with practical race experience who help at Entry Level events. The host club executive should assign an experienced club Official as a Technical Advisor to work with the ROC (the race's organizing group) and help plan and complete the Entry Level race.
