How does the USASF Cheer Scoring System work for All Star Levels 1-5 in 2026-27, across all age divisions? The 100-point score sheet, difficulty and quantity charts, deductions, legality, time limits and appropriateness.
USASF provides judges' training and resources together with the event producers that use the system, and keeps a list of trained judges during the season. Scoring questions and feedback go to scoring@thecheerleadingworlds.net.
For 2026-27 the USASF Club Division score sheet moved from a 170-point to a 100-point scale. The 10 categories and the scoring philosophy (difficulty, technique, comparative judging) are the same, and most weights changed by less than 1%.
| Category | 2026-27 points | Change in weight |
|---|---|---|
| Stunt | 24 | +0.47% |
| Pyramid | 24 | +0.47% |
| Tosses | 6 | +0.12% |
| Standing tumbling | 12 | +0.24% |
| Running tumbling | 12 | +0.24% |
| Jumps | 6 | +0.12% |
| Dance | 6 | +0.12% |
| Routine creativity/composition | 4 | -1.88% |
| Formations & transitions | 3 | +0.06% |
| Performance | 3 | +0.06% |
| Total | 100 |
The other notable change: jumps are now a capped category, in line with IASF scoring.
In the Levels 1-5 rubric, stunt and pyramid are each split into difficulty (up to 12.0) and technique/execution (up to 12.0), and tosses (Levels 2-5), jumps and dance into difficulty (up to 3.0) and technique/execution (up to 3.0).
Stunt difficulty is cumulative through the routine.
All girl divisions:
| Range | Requirement |
|---|---|
| 1.0-3.0 | Less than a majority performs a level-appropriate skill |
| 3.0-8.0 | A majority performs 3 or fewer level-appropriate skills |
| 8.0-12.0 | A majority performs 4 or more level-appropriate skills |
Coed divisions:
| Range | Requirement |
|---|---|
| 1.0-8.0 | Less than a majority performs a level-appropriate skill |
| 8.0-10.0 | A majority performs 3 or fewer level-appropriate skills, and/or no single-based (assisted or unassisted) skill |
| 8.0-12.0 | A majority performs 4 or more level-appropriate skills and at least 1 single-based (assisted or unassisted) skill |
Transitional skills don't count toward the single-based requirement.
Stunt group quantity chart:
| Athletes on the team | Majority (stunt groups) |
|---|---|
| 5-7 | 1 |
| 8-15 | 2 |
| 16-23 | 3 |
| 24-31 | 4 |
| 32-38 | 5 |
When comparing teams: degree of difficulty, percentage of team participation, minimal use of bases, variety of load-ins, dismounts and transitions, and pace, additional skills and combinations (including non-level-appropriate skills).
Pyramid difficulty (cumulative through the routine):
| Range | Requirement |
|---|---|
| 1.0-8.0 | Fewer than 4 level-appropriate skills and/or fewer than 2 structures |
| 8.0-12.0 | At least 4 level-appropriate skills and 2 structures |
A pyramid needs at least two structures. Consecutive transitions within a pyramid don't count as hitting a structure, and each structure must meet the USASF definition of a pyramid (two or more connected stunts).
Toss difficulty, Levels 2-5 (cumulative):
| Range | Requirement |
|---|---|
| 1.0-2.0 | Less than a majority performs a level-appropriate toss |
| 2.0-3.0 | A majority performs a level-appropriate toss |
Toss group quantity chart:
| Athletes on the team | Majority |
|---|---|
| 5-9 | 1 |
| 10-19 | 2 |
| 20-29 | 3 |
| 30-38 | 4 |
When comparing toss difficulty: degree of difficulty (Levels 3-5), percentage of team participation, variety (Levels 3-5), additional tosses (including non-level-appropriate ones) and height.
Standing and running tumbling difficulty (each scored separately, cumulative through the routine):
| Range | Requirement |
|---|---|
| 1.0-4.0 | Less than a majority performs a level-appropriate pass |
| 4.0-6.0 | A majority performs a level-appropriate pass |
Considered when comparing teams: degree of difficulty, percentage of team participation, use and size of groups, recycled versus unique athletes, synchronization of difficult passes, specialty combinations, variety, and additional skills.
Jump difficulty (advanced jumps: herkie, hurdler, toe touch, pike, double nine):
| Score | Requirement |
|---|---|
| 1.0 | Fewer than 3 advanced jumps |
| 2.5 | Most of the team performs 3 advanced jumps |
| 3.0 | Most of the team performs 3 advanced jumps, with at least 2 connected, synchronized and with variety |
Team quantity chart (tumbling and jumps):
| Athletes | Majority | Most |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 3 | 3 |
| 6-7 | 4 | 4 |
| 8-9 | 5 | 5 |
| 10-11 | 6 | 6 |
| 12-13 | 7 | 7 |
| 14-15 | 8 | 8 |
| 16-17 | 9 | 10 |
| 18-19 | 10 | 11 |
| 20-21 | 11 | 12 |
| 22-23 | 12 | 13 |
| 24-25 | 13 | 14 |
| 26-27 | 14 | 15 |
Levels 1-5 rubric ranges:
| Category | Below average | Average | Above average |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stunt & pyramid technique/execution (stability, flexibility, uniformity, sync) | 1.0-6.0 | 6.0-10.0 | 10.0-12.0 |
| Tumbling technique/execution (uniformity, body control, landings, sync) | 1.0-3.0 | 3.0-5.0 | 5.0-6.0 |
| Toss technique/execution, Levels 2-5 (flexibility, uniformity, sync) | 0.1-0.5 | 0.5-2.5 | 2.5-3.0 |
| Jump technique/execution (flexibility, uniformity, sync) | 0.1-0.5 | 0.5-2.5 | 2.5-3.0 |
| Dance difficulty | 0.1-0.5 | 0.5-2.5 | 2.5-3.0 |
| Dance technique/execution | 0.1-0.5 | 0.5-2.5 | 2.5-3.0 |
| Routine creativity/composition | 1.0-1.5 | 1.5-3.0 | 3.0-4.0 |
| Formations & transitions | 0.1-0.5 | 0.5-2.5 | 2.5-3.0 |
| Performance | 0.1-0.5 | 0.5-2.5 | 2.5-3.0 |
What each covers:
A zero is given only when no skills or elements are performed in the category.
USASF Scoring System deductions (effective 8/1/2026), each per occurrence unless noted:
| Deduction | Value |
|---|---|
| Athlete fall (hand/knee down or incomplete twist in tumbling or jumps) | 0.25 |
| Major athlete fall (multiple body parts down) | 0.5 |
| Building bobble (almost drops, saved) | 0.5 |
| Building fall (drops from a building skill or transition) | 1.0 |
| Major building fall (drops to the performance surface) | 1.5 |
| Legality infraction (safety violation) | 2.0 |
| Skill performed out of level (Levels 1-5, legal in Level 6) | 0.5 |
| Time limit violation | 0.5 per second over |
| Boundary violation | 0.5 |
These values are lower than in 2025-26 (for example, athlete fall was 1.0 and building fall 3.0), in line with the move from a 170-point to a 100-point score sheet.
For an incomplete tumbling twist, the landing position of the athlete's feet decides completion.
Building bobble (0.5): almost drops but is saved. Includes:
Not a bobble: a drop in the top person's body position, excessive base movement when the top stays aligned and height doesn't change, a balance check, an omitted skill, or timing issues.
Building fall (1.0): drops from a building skill or transition, e.g. drops to a cradle, load-in or prone, or a single-based stunt that drops to the surface with help from a base or spotter.
Major building fall (1.5): drops to the performance surface by the top person and/or bases or spotters, e.g. several bases or spotters hit the floor, the top person lands on a base or spotter who goes down, or a single-based stunt's top person lands on the surface without help. A top person who's set down out of a skill and then trips is not a major building fall.
Athlete falls are separate: 0.25 for a hand or knee down (or an incomplete twist) in tumbling or jumps, 0.5 when multiple body parts hit (hands and knees, seat and hands). Tripping while walking in a transition isn't a fall.
| Deduction | Value (each occurrence) | Applies when |
|---|---|---|
| Legality infraction (safety violation) | 2.0 | Levels 1-6: the skill isn't allowed even in Level 6. Level 7: the skill isn't allowed in Level 7 |
| Skill performed out of level | 0.5 | Levels 1-5: a building or tumbling skill above the team's level, but legal in Level 6 |
So a Level 3 team performing a Level 4 skill gets the 0.5 out-of-level deduction, while a skill that's illegal at every level up to 6 is a 2.0 safety violation.
Legality is judged against the 2026-27 USASF Cheer Rules. Every skill allowed in a level is also allowed in the levels above it, and a skill not allowed in a level isn't allowed in any lower level.
Time limit
Boundary
Yes. Under the USASF Athletic Performance Standards, judges may assess warnings and/or deductions when a team's overall presentation isn't appropriate. Overall presentation includes choreography, music, uniform, makeup, hair and bows.
Inappropriate choreography or music includes, for example:
Replacing offending words with sound effects or other words may still be inappropriate. If appropriateness is questionable, the coach should assume it's inappropriate.
