What equipment should I check before a Majors game?
Rule- USA
- Little League Baseball
- Major Division
- League age 9-12
- 12 and under
- Regular season
- 2026 rules
- Umpires
Inspect equipment together with your partner.
Bats
- Must meet the USABat standard and carry its stamp, with a barrel no more than 2⅝ inches.
- Remove any bat with cracks or sharp edges, or one that won't pass the 2⅝-inch bat ring. A dented bat that passes the ring is your call: remove it if it isn't smooth and round or is a safety risk.
- A bat found to be damaged during the game is removed, but it isn't an illegal bat, so no penalty applies.
- Batting donuts and choke-up knobs aren't allowed. Pine tar is allowed from 2026.
Batting helmets
- NOCSAE approved, not repainted or taped. Stickers are fine if not excessive.
- An add-on attachment such as a C-flap needs the manufacturer's notice that NOCSAE certification isn't voided, shown to you before the game.
Catchers
- Catcher's helmet with mask and dangling throat guard, chest protector (long or short model), shin guards, and a catcher's mitt (no fielder's or first base glove). Male catchers must wear a cup.
- Anyone warming up a pitcher must wear a catcher's helmet with throat guard.
Shoes: no metal spikes in Majors.
A glove that's too large is removed from play, and action with it stands; report it to the league president after the game.
