National events are primarily officiated by technical officials from the host provincial sport organization (PSO). Triathlon Canada runs an "out of region" (OOR) program so some officials can work outside their home region:
- A maximum of 15% of the required technical team (excluding leadership positions) may be allocated to OOR officials.
- Only officials accepted to the program are eligible for a travel stipend of up to $150. Other OOR officials are welcome to attend but are not paid.
- Acceptance balances expertise, regional participation, gender and development.
- An OOR official must contact the Technical Delegate for the event they want to work.
For international events in Canada, officials must apply to the Triathlon Canada Technical Committee and normally must be NTOs, CTOs or ITOs in good standing. PTOs may be considered for supporting roles if spots are available; the PSOs pass on the invitation, and the PTO sends an expression of interest to officials@triathloncanada.com.
