How many events can I swim in a meet?
Rule- USA
- NFHS
- High school
- Grades 9-12 (ages 14-18)
- NFHS rules
- Swimming and diving
- 2026-27 season
- Swimmers
Under the NFHS individual participation rule (Rule 3-2-1), as applied by state associations:
- You may enter a maximum of four events per meet.
- No more than two of them may be individual events. The rest are relays.
- Preliminaries and finals count as one meet.
- A relay counts as one of your events only if you actually swim in it.
If a swimmer competes in too many events, the result can be corrected. The NFHS removed the old "clerical error only" limit, so the Referee can fix these errors, subject to state association policy (Rule 4-1-4, 2025-26 interpretation).
