Ball limits (5.2): a batter retires immediately on facing the limit, and wides and no balls count.
| Match | Players in team | Retire after |
|---|---|---|
| 20 overs | any | 20 balls |
| 30 overs | 9 or fewer | 30 balls |
| 30 overs | 10 or more | 25 balls |
How to record:
- Retired at the limit: Retired Not Out. They return only after every other batter present has batted, in the order they retired, starting from 0 balls faced again, and retire again at the limit.
- Retired hurt (illness, injury, unavoidable cause): may resume when another batter retires, from the balls already faced. If they do not resume, Retired Not Out.
- Not present to resume after a break and not retired before it: Retired Out. If the reason was unavoidable, Retired Not Out.
- Not present to bat at all: Did Not Bat.
