Under the World Netball Rules of Netball (2024), used by Netball South Africa, the official bench has two scorers and two timekeepers, seated at a table opposite the centre of the court, beside the umpires' bench and between the two team benches.
| Role | Main job |
|---|---|
| Scorer 1 | Keeps the official score sheet: goals, missed shots, centre passes, starting line-ups and shooting statistics |
| Scorer 2 | The caller: watches play throughout, calls each shot and centre pass, and keeps the running score sheet as a check |
| Timekeeper 1 | Official time: playing time, intervals and stoppages; signals the end of each quarter |
| Timekeeper 2 | Back-up timer; records substitutions, team changes, warnings, suspensions and orderings off on the Player Changes and Game Management Form |
Lower levels: under Rule 21, a competition may use fewer technical officials, but at least one scorer and one timekeeper should be appointed. World Netball recommends its members follow the Technical Officials Manual and says lower-level competitions may adapt it.
Conduct (Technical Officials Manual): dress neatly and uniformly, stay impartial, keep phones out of sight, eat away from the bench, and arrive well before the start to check your equipment.
