ASA Rule 23.4 sets these minimum ages for road races. They are the same for boys and girls, and your age is taken on the day of the race. The distance is the race distance or, in a relay, the leg distance.
| Distance | Minimum age |
|---|---|
| 2-5km | 9 |
| 6-10km | 14 |
| 11-15km | 15 |
| 16-21.1km (half marathon) | 16 |
| 22-32km | 19 |
| 33-42.2km (marathon) | 20 |
| Over 42.2km (ultra) | 20 |
Fun runs (no more than 8km) are not covered by this table. For the ASA championship programme, juniors run 5km, 10km and 21.1km road races, and the marathon is for seniors only.
