Can my time on a point-to-point course count for records or qualifying?

Not if the course breaks the separation rule: the start and finish points, measured along a straight line between them, must not be further apart than 50% of the race distance.
- Records and qualification standards (provincial, national or international, for example National Team events or the Boston Marathon): performances on courses that exceed the separation rule are not eligible. Where qualification uses World Athletics World Ranking points and the World Athletics system permits such performances, your overall World Ranking points score is accepted.
- Rankings: the performance is eligible for provincial, national or international rankings, and Athletics Canada keeps a separate ranking for "Separated Courses".
- Boston Marathon: it accepts times from point-to-point courses that hold a valid course measurement certificate.
