- Ring officials
Under regulations 2 and 4 of the Boxing Regulations, to register as an official (referee, judge, timekeeper, ringmaster or announcer) for the first time you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- have the amateur or professional boxing experience Boxing SA considers appropriate;
- pass Boxing SA's written and/or practical examination; and
- complete the apprenticeship Boxing SA sets.
Registration is renewed every year, and Boxing SA may refuse renewal if, on reasonable grounds, you didn't perform satisfactorily the previous year. You may only act in the capacity you're registered for, and in one capacity at a time.
Referees must also complete Boxing SA's annual course on the medical aspects of boxing and pass a medical and fitness test at least once a year.
Licence applications are made online on the Boxing SA website during the annual licensing window, with the fee for your category; the Boxing SA Board approves or rejects them.
