Under section 11.1 of the Cycling SA Road Cycling Handbook 2026, your category is set by the age you turn on or before 31 December of the registration year, not your age on race day:

| U11 | 10 or younger |
| U13 | 11 or 12 |
| U15 | 13 or 14 |
| U17 | 15 or 16 |
For example, a rider who turns 13 at any point in 2026 races U15 for the whole of 2026, even before their birthday.
- From the year you turn 17, you are a Junior (U19).
- You ride the category on your licence at all events, including Provincial and SA Championships (section 11.8).
- Cycling SA youth membership covers riders U17 and younger (section 9.6).
