At XCO events a double feed and technical assistance zone is preferred; if that is not possible, two feed and technical assistance zones are needed. Where technical assistance is done at the same place as feeding, riders must pull into the box and stop riding. Also:
- Riders can receive feed and water in the technical area as long as they are stopped (one foot down).
- The areas should be chalked out or otherwise identifiable. Feeders must stay behind the first line and step into the feeding area only when their rider arrives.
- A passing lane lets riders who do not want a feed ride straight through.
- Signs should mark the start and end of each feed or technical zone.
