- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or hold a current International Transfer Certificate (ITC) for the event if Australia is not their federation of origin.
- Meet the age criteria of their division.

The Youth Championships is a closed tournament reserved for member association teams, and all teams must be affiliated or endorsed by their member association. Players in the National Program must get written endorsement from their member association of origin before trialling for any team.
Playing while ineligible can bring sanctions for each match, including fines, forfeiture of results, loss of competition points, removal from medal contention and suspension from the event.
