A catch (Rule 12.1): a non-spinning disc trapped between at least two body parts. You establish possession when you hold the catch for more than a noticeable instant and keep it through all ground contact related to the catch (landing, diving, falling).
If you lose the disc because of ground contact from the catch, or contact with a team-mate or a legitimately positioned opponent, possession has not been established. If an attacker and defender catch the disc at the same time, the offence keeps it.
A goal (Rule 14.1): an in-bounds player catches a legal pass, and:
- all their ground contacts are entirely in their attacking end zone (for a jumping player, their first landing points after the catch), and
- they then establish possession, keeping the catch through all ground contact.
The goal line is not part of the end zone, so a foot on the line means no goal. If you catch the disc in the central zone and your momentum carries you into the end zone, it is not a goal: you bring the disc back to the nearest point on the goal line and play on.
