Under Rule 15:
- A foul is a breach involving non-minor contact between opposing players. Only the player who was fouled can call it, by calling "Foul".
- Make the call immediately after you recognise the breach.
- Only call a breach that is significant enough to affect the outcome of the play, or where safety is at risk (Rule 1.3.10).
- Deliberately initiating even minor contact is still a breach, treated as a violation rather than a foul.
- Infractions (marking and travel breaches) are called by their name and do not stop play. Violations (every other breach) can be called by any opposing player, by name or by calling "Violation".
- Players are encouraged to use the WFDF hand signals for every call.
When discussing the call, explain your view clearly and briefly, let the opponent speak, and listen to them. Calls should be discussed by the players involved and those with the best view. Non-players other than captains should stay out of it, though players may ask others for perspective or to clarify the rules.
If you stop play wrongly (mishearing a call, not knowing the rule, or calling late), any play stands if the opposition keeps or gains the disc; otherwise it goes back to the last undisputed thrower.
