The main NFHS changes for the 2027 season:
- First base (1-2-9): a double first base, or an 18-inch-square single first base, is required from January 1, 2027.
- Coach communication (1-6-2): one-way electronic pitch calling from the dugout can now go to the pitcher and/or catcher, not just the catcher.
- No wearable cameras or microphones (1-6-3): players can't wear audio or video devices during the game.
- Eye black (1-5-12): one solid stroke only, with no words, numbers, logos or symbols, no wider than the eye socket and not below the cheekbone.
- Uniforms (1-4-4): the school's name, nickname, logo or mascot and the player's name are permitted on the uniform top and pants.
- Coach's box (3-3-1h): coaches may now use handheld electronic scoring devices there.
- Tie-breaker option (4-2-2): state associations may adopt a tie-breaker that starts each extra half-inning with a runner on second base.
The one player-to-player defensive meeting per inning rule (3-4-6) also applies. New bat options arrive in 2028.
