Under Rule 3.1 of the 2024 Rules of Handicapping:
- Before you have a Handicap Index: the maximum for each hole is par + 5 strokes.
- With an established Handicap Index: the maximum is a net double bogey: par of the hole + 2 strokes + any handicap strokes you receive on that hole (minus any strokes a plus handicap player gives back on that hole).
Details:
- A net double bogey equals the lowest score on a hole for which you would earn zero Stableford points.
- There is no limit to how many holes in a round can be adjusted.
- Use your full, unrestricted Course Handicap (rounded to a whole number), not a competition's restricted Playing Handicap.
- If your Course Handicap is more than 54 and you receive 4 or more strokes on a hole, the maximum for that hole is par + 5.
- Hole-by-hole posting makes the adjustment automatically. If you post an adjusted gross score instead, you make the adjustment yourself.
- Example: you receive 1 stroke on a par 4. Your maximum is 4 + 2 + 1 = 7.
