Under Rule 6.1a of the 2024 Rules of Handicapping, your Course Handicap for an 18-hole round is:
Handicap Index x (Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Course Rating - Par)
Round to the nearest whole number as the final step (.5 rounds up). Use the Slope Rating, Course Rating and par of the tees you are playing. For example, a Handicap Index of 15.0 on tees with a Slope Rating of 125, Course Rating 71.2 and par 72 gives 15.0 x 1.106 + (71.2 - 72) = 16.6 - 0.8 = 15.8, which rounds to 16.
- A standard-difficulty course has a Slope Rating of 113; Slope Ratings range from 55 to 155.
- Provincial golf associations issue Course and Slope Ratings in Canada; clubs cannot rate their own courses.
- Your Course Handicap is the number of strokes you receive on that course and is used for the net double bogey adjustment.
- In a competition, a Playing Handicap applies the format's handicap allowance to your Course Handicap (Rule 6.2). Where the allowance is 100%, it equals your Course Handicap.
