In. Under Law 1.3, all the lines form part of the area they define, so a shuttle landing on any part of a line belongs to that area.
What counts is which court and which lines apply:
| Situation | Lines in use |
|---|---|
| Singles rally | Inner (singles) side lines, outer back line |
| Doubles rally | Outer (doubles) side lines, outer back line |
| Singles serve | Singles side lines, back line, short service line, centre line |
| Doubles serve | Doubles side lines, inner long service line for doubles, short service line, centre line |
A doubles serve that lands between the doubles long service line and the back line is out. A serve that lands short of the short service line is out, but one on the line is in.
