- Parents
Members must always wear a protective hat when mounted, including at prize-giving, with the chinstrap fastened and adjusted so the hat can't move in a fall. The 2026 Pony Club hat rule is unchanged from 2025.
| Hat standard | Safety mark needed |
|---|---|
| Snell E2016 or E2021 | Official Snell label and number |
| PAS 015:2011 | BSI Kitemark or Inspec IC mark |
| (BS) EN 1384:2023 | BSI Kitemark or Inspec IC mark |
| VG1 | BSI Kitemark or Inspec IC mark |
| ASTM F1163 (2015 or 2023) | SEI mark |
| AS/NZS 3838:2006 | SAI Global mark |
A hat labelled with an older standard is still allowed if it also carries at least one of the standards above.
Also:
- No hat cameras or other recording devices.
- Cross-country, eventing, tetrathlon, pony racing and mounted games need a jockey skull cap with no fixed peak. A removable cover with a light, flexible peak is allowed.
- Replace hats after a severe impact, and after 3 to 5 years depending on use. The Pony Club recommends a qualified BETA fitter and advises against second-hand hats.
- The official steward or organiser can eliminate a rider who rides in the competition area with no hat, an unfastened chinstrap, or a non-compliant hat.
