England Hockey's Junior Hockey Framework is its approach for 5-11 year olds across clubs, primary schools and community groups. It's being rolled out in phases from September 2025.
- In clubs: qualified and accredited coaches use age-appropriate activities that build hockey skills and personal qualities such as communication, decision-making and teamwork. Groups are of mixed ability, experience and gender.
- Matches: most clubs play friendly age-group matches and enter local tournaments and festivals. Exactly what's on offer depends on the club's size, facilities and coaches.
- In primary schools: England Hockey runs skill-station festivals through the School Games network, and a 4 v 4 format for children who want more competition.
- Older programmes: England Hockey has put Hockey Heroes and Quicksticks on hold, folding their best parts into the framework.
From around age 10, children can move on to In2Hockey.
