What safe sport screening and training do coaches and volunteers need?
Rule- Canada
- Canoe Kayak Canada
- Sprint racing
- U10-U18
- 2026
- Parents
According to CKC's Safe Sport page and Sprint Member Handbook:
- CKC requires any coach, official or volunteer taking part in a CKC activity to be registered in CKC's RAMP database and to have a valid CKC Safe Sport Screening completed before attending any CKC event. Screening is mandatory for those roles.
- Screening has four steps: training (CAC Safe Sport Training or Respect in Sport Activity Leaders), gathering documents (for higher risk levels, a Criminal Record Check or Vulnerable Sector Check), logging in to the member organization's RAMP database, and completing the application and Screening Disclosure form. An independent Third Party Screening Officer reviews each submission and says whether it is approved.
- Risk levels run from 1 to 3. Level 1 can go straight to the form (training recommended); Levels 2 and 3 must complete training and documents first.
- Coaches must also hold Making Ethical Decisions certification.
- Each member organization is responsible for making sure members in positions of trust or authority are screened and trained to their risk level.
