Under the 2026 BMX racing regulations:
- Except at National Championships, National Series and State/Territory Championships, a competitor may ride up only two categories above their racing age, or ride the opposite gender category equal to or above (but not below) their own racing age. This applies to both age-on-day and year-of-birth racing.
- At one event a competitor may enter one age category, one Cruiser category and one Junior Superclass or Superclass category.
- A rider cannot enter an age category and a championship category at the same event if both are offered (for example at the National Championships).
- Sprocket Rocket riders cannot ride up into competitive categories, and Novice and Mini Wheeler riders stay within their own category.
- Junior Superclass riders aged 14 and 15 cannot ride up into Superclass, and Challenge riders 13 and under cannot ride up into Junior Superclass.
- Categories may be merged when numbers are low, at the discretion of the Race Secretary, PCP and Technical Delegate. Junior Superclass is never merged with Superclass.
