- World Rugby laws
- 2026
- Medical officers
SA Rugby's Safety in the Playing Environment document (December 2025) sets three levels of minimum medical cover:
Green: normal school matches, normal club matches, community rugby, and sevens at these levels.
Gold:
- Currie Cup tournaments (all formats and age groups) except the Premier Division
- other interprovincial matches, including amateur interprovincial matches and tournaments
- Gold Cup and similar tournaments
- Varsity Cup and Varsity Shield
- SARU Youth Weeks (such as Craven Week)
- schoolboy festivals and Classic Clashes
- sevens at these levels
Gold+:
- Currie Cup Premier Division
- URC, Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup
- all international Tests
- all international sevens
Gold and Gold+ add stricter requirements on top of Green. These are minimums: sanctioned competitions, tournaments and festivals can be stricter, and where the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act 2010 applies, its requirements must also be met.
