From the 2026 CFL Official Playing Rules:
- Teams: the game is played by teams of 12 players. The team with the ball is Team A and the other is Team B.
- Field: 110 yards long by 65 yards wide, with a goal area (end zone) 20 yards deep at each end, bounded by the goal line and the dead line.
- Downs: Team A has three downs to gain 10 yards. If it fails, the ball goes to Team B as first down where it became dead. If it gains the 10 yards, a new series of downs begins.
- Ball: the official ball is the Wilson CFL Official Game Ball, with a long-axis circumference of 28 to 28 1/2 inches.
- Game length: four 15-minute quarters.
- Single point: the table of scores includes a single point (the rouge), worth 1 point, in addition to the touchdown (6), field goal (3), convert (1 or 2) and safety touch (2).
- Designated quarterbacks: each team designates two or three Designated Quarterbacks before the game, and no more than two of them may be in the game at once.
- Uniform numbers: eligible receivers wear 0 to 49 and 70 to 99, and ineligible receivers wear 50 to 69.
