GCR 177 lists penalties in increasing severity:
- Reprimand
- Fine
- Time penalty
- Exclusion
Only formal MSA courts can impose suspension or withdrawal of a licence, disqualification, or forfeiture of championship points.
Maximum fines:
| Imposed by | Maximum |
|---|---|
| Clerk of the Course (non-FIA/FIM events) | R150 000 |
| Stewards of the Meeting | R300 000 |
| MSA Court of Appeal or Court of Enquiry | R600 000 |
| MSA National Court of Appeal | R1 500 000 |
In races and speed events, the Clerk of the Course can also show the black flag and apply the set time penalty for an offence reported by a Judge of Fact (GCR 157). A fine cannot replace exclusion for a technical non-compliance unless the Technical Consultant agrees it was minor and gave absolutely no advantage. You must normally be heard before a penalty is imposed (GCR 175).
