MSA issues International, National, Regional, Club and Social competition licences, plus entrants', officials' and one-event licences (GCR 125). A licence is valid for events of its own status and lower (GCR 128).
| Event | Minimum licence |
|---|---|
| South African National Championship event | National |
| Interprovincial / National Challenge event | Regional |
| Regional and club events | As endorsed on a Regional licence, or as set in the event regulations |
| International event (FIA, CIK, FIM calendar) | International, plus MSA permission to compete abroad |
To get a licence (GCR 127):
- be a paid-up member in good standing of an MSA-affiliated club or association;
- sign MSA's online indemnity (a parent or guardian must sign for a minor);
- meet the eligibility and age rules for the category (no exceptions to age rules);
- where applicable, hold a current driver's licence (or learner's licence for navigators), unless the category allows juniors;
- submit MSA's medical fitness form.
Licences run from issue to 31 December. A licence is invalid while you are suspended or disqualified, or if your road driver's licence is withdrawn (unless MSA re-authorises it).
