Use the free SMA Sports Heat Tool at https://sma-heat-policy.sydney.edu.au/
- Select your sport from the drop-down menu (e.g. Australian football).
- Select the postcode-level location where the event will take place.
- Weather data from the Bureau of Meteorology is retrieved automatically from the weather station nearest to the site of play.
- The current heat stress risk is shown on a four-point scale (Low, Moderate, High or Extreme) with key heat stress mitigation strategies summarised. A "Detailed suggestions" drop-down gives more guidance.
The forecast risk for the rest of the day is shown as a graph, and the next 7 days can be viewed from a drop-down box.
The 2025 guidelines cover 33 popular sports, including Australian football, baseball, basketball, bowls, cricket, cycling, field athletics, field hockey, netball, Oztag, rugby league, rugby union, soccer, softball, tennis, touch football and volleyball.
