How many matches can my wrestlers have in a day, and do byes count?

• Maximum six matches per day.
• Maximum 10 matches in a two-day event.
• Byes do not count as matches, don't count toward either limit, and don't go on a wrestler's match record (new language for 2026-27).

Dual meets (since 2025-26): the starting weight class is set by a random draw (held before weigh-ins), or the meet goes from lightest to heaviest. In multi-dual events, each later dual starts one weight class above the previous round's start.

Some state associations add their own limits on top of these. For example, Texas (UIL) also requires at least 30 minutes of rest between matches.
