Weigh-ins (4-5-1, updated for 2026-27):
- Wrestlers may weigh in shoulder to shoulder or by team. Weighing by team helps when weights are entered live into a weight management system.
- Weigh-ins happen at the start of a dual meet, or before a team's first competition each day of a multi-dual event.
- If a preliminary meet comes before a varsity meet, weigh-ins may precede the preliminary meet by mutual consent.
- Bring any skin-condition documentation to the weigh-in.
Weight classes: each state chooses a 12-, 13- or 14-class set for boys and for girls, and can't switch during the season. The 14-class sets are:
- Girls: 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 155, 170, 190, 235
- Boys (also used when girls wrestle boys): 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215, 285
A wrestler's minimum weight class is set by the state weight-control program's body fat assessment. Some states add a growth allowance during the season (for example, Texas UIL adds 2 pounds from December 27).
