Yes. Parents do not need a check to volunteer in an activity their child participates in or normally participates in.
Other exemptions:
- People under 18.
- Students aged 18 or 19 doing volunteer work organised by, or held at, their educational institution.
- People closely related to each child they work with (spouse or domestic partner, parent, step-parent, parent-in-law, grandparent, uncle or aunt, sibling including half, step and sibling-in-law). Kinship carers must have a check even if closely related.
- Teachers registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, and Victoria Police and Australian Federal Police officers, while not suspended or dismissed.
- Visitors who normally live outside Victoria: up to 30 days per calendar year with an equivalent check from their home state or territory, or one event or occasion per calendar year of up to 30 days without one.
Exemptions do not apply if you have previously failed a check and been given a WWC Exclusion. Even if you are exempt, you need a check if your organisation requires one.
