A passed check gives a WWC Clearance valid for 5 years, unless it is suspended, cancelled or surrendered. Clearance holders are monitored on an ongoing basis, and a clearance can be suspended or revoked if new relevant information arises.
The Social Services Regulator assesses criminal records from all Australian states and territories (including charges regardless of outcome), professional conduct findings, sex offender and serious offender reporting obligations or orders, and any other information relevant to child safety risk.
After you receive your clearance:
- show your physical or digital card to each organisation before you start child-related work so it can be verified
- keep your personal and organisation details current
- do not let anyone else use your check
- renew before it expires if you are still doing child-related work
- tell the WWC Check team about changes in your circumstances, including if you are charged with or found guilty of any offences
The digital clearance is stored in the Service Victoria app, and anyone can scan its QR code to see whether it is current or expired.
