Parents can verify a check online with the Office of the Children's Guardian form at wwccheck.ocg.nsw.gov.au/VerifyIndividual.
- Enter your own details, then the worker's family name, birth date and WWC or application (APP) number. The worker has to give you these details.
- Read the status. Only a worker whose status is "Cleared" or "Application in progress" can be engaged. Do not use anyone who is barred, interim barred or not found.
- Keep a record of the worker's check details, including the expiry date, and verify again if they are still working with you when it expires.
The OCG says verifying also lets it contact you if the worker's status changes. You can also verify through the Service NSW app: the worker must have added their check to the app, and you scan the WWCC QR code under Services, "Check a licence or credential".
The OCG describes paid coaches who work for themselves as workers a parent should verify before they start.
