The Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) scheme checks the backgrounds of people who want to work or volunteer with vulnerable people in certain sectors, and monitors people who hold a registration. "Vulnerable people" are children and adults experiencing disadvantage, such as disability, social or financial hardship, or difficulty communicating, who are accessing a service because of that disadvantage.
You need registration if you have regular, more than incidental, contact with vulnerable people in a regulated activity and no exemption applies. Volunteers in regulated activities generally need registration, but there are exemptions.
