You need four documents in total, at least one showing your photo, and they should show the same name (add linking documents such as a marriage certificate if names differ):
- One commencement document: full Australian birth certificate (not an extract or birth card), current Australian passport, Australian visa with the linked foreign passport, ImmiCard, or Australian citizenship certificate.
- One primary document (not expired): for example a current Australian driver licence, learner or provisional licence (interim licence receipts are not accepted), a current passport, or a proof of age or photo identity card from an Australian government agency.
- Two secondary documents (not expired): for example a Medicare card, Australian Electoral Commission enrolment, a bank card or credit card from an Australian financial institution, or evidence of a Centrelink or DVA benefit.
If you apply online, bring the originals or true certified copies of those same documents to an Access Canberra Service Centre. By post, send true certified copies, plus passport-standard photos and a photo of you holding a photo ID, as set out on the Access Canberra page.
