What does Level V require, and how do I maintain it?
Rule- Canada
- Softball Canada
- Fast pitch
- Slo-pitch
- Umpiring
- Umpire certification
- Umpires of all levels
- 2026
- Umpires
Prerequisites
- Fully certified Level IV for at least two seasons.
- A successful evaluation at two elite events (Canadian fast pitch championships excluding U15 and U17, Canada Games, or pre-approved elite events such as the Canadian Open, excluding Futures), or a successful evaluation at one Canadian slo-pitch championship.
- Certified for a minimum of seven years, and endorsed by your P/T Umpire-in-Chief.
Evaluation: two successful evaluations by a P/T officiating representative, a recommendation from your province or territory, and then a highly successful evaluation at a Women's or Men's fast pitch, Masters 35+ slo-pitch, Men's slo-pitch or Women's slo-pitch Canadian Championship.
Where you can work: P/T minor and adult ball, Canadian Championships, international and national events, and UIC or DUIC roles at Canadian Championships.
Maintenance
- Stay a member in good standing, follow the code of ethics and register each year.
- Write the national exam annually and score 90% or higher. A lower score makes you ineligible that year for ODC appointments to supervisory, clinician, Canadian Championship or international roles.
- Stay active in P/T, national and ODC programs, and submit a yearly self-evaluation to the National Officiating Development Committee by November 1.
- Reach the minimum point level in on-field, off-field or combined activity.
- To stay eligible for Softball Canada international selection, officiate a Men's or Women's Canadian fast pitch championship, a Men's Canadian slo-pitch championship, an elite tournament or an international event within four years.
