What does Level IV require, and how do I maintain it?
Rule- Canada
- Softball Canada
- Fast pitch
- Slo-pitch
- Umpiring
- Umpire certification
- Umpires of all levels
- 2026
- Umpires
Prerequisites: certified Level III for at least two seasons, with at least one P/T Championship attended and a successful evaluation.
Training: attend a National Level IV Theory Clinic and pass the Level IV exam.
Evaluation
- Two successful evaluations by a P/T representative, with recommendations forwarded to the ODC.
- After the theory clinic, a successful Level IV evaluation at a specified Canadian Championship: U20 Men's, U19 Women's fast pitch, U23 Women's fast pitch, Masters fast pitch, Masters 40+ slo-pitch, Women's slo-pitch or Co-Ed slo-pitch.
- P/T Umpires-in-Chief may ask for tournament approval for a Level IV practical evaluation. The tournament must use a three-umpire system and let each position be worked at least three times, and the National Development Umpire must approve the evaluator.
Where you can work: P/T minor and adult softball, any Canadian Championship, and Designated Umpire-in-Chief (DUIC) roles at Canadian Championships or national clinician roles.
Maintenance: attend a P/T clinic annually and write the national exam annually, scoring 80% or higher. A failing score means that year does not count toward advancement and bars selection to a Canadian Championship that year. Stay active in regional and P/T programs.
