- Umpires
The National Director of Umpires of Softball Canada selects the umpires:
- Nominations come from the provincial or territorial association and its Umpire-in-Chief by May 1 of the Championship year.
- The nominated umpire must be a registered affiliate umpire, must have been affiliated nationally during the preceding two years, and must have been evaluated at a provincial or territorial tournament by the association's Umpire-in-Chief during the year before the nomination. The evaluation must accompany the nomination.
- For a Slo-Pitch Canadian Championship, the umpire must be qualified and experienced in slo-pitch.
- The National Director can refuse a nomination if that umpire has attended a previous Canadian Championship.
- Umpires at Canadian Championships must wear the uniform and follow the written guidelines set by Softball Canada.
Certification matters too: for example, Level III umpires are qualified for the U19, U23, Women's fast pitch, Masters 40+ slo-pitch, Women's slo-pitch and Co-Ed slo-pitch Canadian Championships, and a failing national exam score bars selection to a Canadian Championship that year for Level III and IV umpires.
