Softball Australia's umpiring accreditation page says there are 8 levels in the Australian umpiring accreditation system.
- Level 1: a passing mark on the Basic Rules Assessment, basic umpire mechanics (covered by the Level 1 Introductory Umpire Program), the Play By The Rules Harassment and Discrimination course, the Sport Integrity Australia Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport induction, umpiring both plates and bases at a satisfactory basic level for a season, and signing the Umpires Code of Conduct. There is no formal practical assessment: an on-diamond check by a softball official at your association is enough.
- Levels 2 to 4: a theory exam and a practical assessment at local or state competitions or tournaments.
- Levels 5 and 6: a theory exam and a practical assessment at national tournaments.
- Levels 7 and 8: recognition accreditations awarded by the Softball Australia National Umpiring Program.
You must be registered with a Member State Association. The Level 1 application form goes to your State Director of Umpiring and a fee applies. Each level has its own training program and participants manual.
