The MJCC lists these essential signals (Cricket Australia images):
| Call | Signal |
|---|---|
| Out | Raise one arm with a finger pointing up toward the batter |
| Wide | Both arms stretched out horizontally, and call "wide" |
| Four | One arm moved horizontally side to side |
| Six | Both arms raised above the head |
| Byes | One arm raised vertically |
| Leg byes | Lift a leg and tap its side |
| No ball | One arm stretched out horizontally, and call "no ball" |
| Dead ball | Both arms down, then crossed over |
| Short run | Tap one shoulder with one hand |
| Disregard last call | Cross both arms over the chest and tap both shoulders |
Byes and leg byes add an extra run to the total, not to the batter. Wides and no balls add an extra run to the batting side.
