World Netball Rule 6:
| Sanction | Awarded for | Taken from |
|---|---|---|
| Free pass | Minor infringements | Where the infringement happened |
| Penalty pass | Major infringements (obstruction, contact) | Where the infringer was standing, or where the infringed player was standing if that would disadvantage the non-infringing team |
| Throw-in | Ball out of court | Where the ball went out |
- Any player allowed in that area may take a sanction.
- Free pass: the player taking it can't shoot for goal. If they do, a free pass goes the other way and no goal is scored.
- Penalty pass: the infringer must stand out of play. They move quickly to the position you indicate, beside but away from the thrower, and take no part (including talking) until the ball is released. If they don't, a further penalty pass is awarded, which may be advanced.
- A GS or GA taking a penalty pass in the goal circle may pass or shoot.
- A correctly positioned player may take a penalty pass immediately, before it's set ("taken"). The infringer still may not take part until the ball is released.
- If the infringer is substituted or changes position before the penalty pass is taken, whoever takes their position stands out of play.
