Cricket Canada's Umpiring Examination Guidelines set four levels of written exam. Each has two parts: Part A covers the MCC Laws of Cricket and Part B covers the ICC limited-overs Playing Conditions (the Scorer exam is Part A only).
| Level | Pass mark (Part A / Part B) | Duration | Valid for | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Provisional Umpire | 70% / 70% | 1 hour | 4 years | $50 |
| Intermediate Umpire | 75% / 75% | 2.5 hours | 4 years | $150 |
| Qualified Umpire | 80% / 80% | 3 hours | 3 years | $300 |
| Scorer (CC Level 1) | 75% / not applicable | 2.5 hours | 5 years | $50 |
The Intermediate exam needs proof of passing the Provisional exam, and the Qualified exam needs proof of passing the Intermediate exam. Qualified also has an on-field assessment and a viva.
All examinations are held in April across the country. Cricket Canada's National Committee for Umpires is chaired by Mohammed Shaikh.
