Rules: CGL senior club matches in 2025/26 are played under the MCC Laws of Cricket (2017 Code, 3rd Edition, 2022), as changed by the CGL playing conditions for the format (50 overs, 35 overs, 20 overs or time cricket, all version 2.0 of 23 August 2025) and the CGL By-laws and General Regulations.
Appointments: CGL delegates the appointment of official umpires to the Central Gauteng Lions Cricket Umpires' Association (CGLCUA). CGLCUA can revoke an umpire's accreditation if the umpire's integrity is questioned and proven unworthy.
One official umpire: if only one official umpire is appointed, they take full responsibility and stand at the bowler's end at both ends. A member of the batting team stands at square leg.
No official umpires: the captains appoint umpires from the two teams (including the 12th player and team manager) or anyone with at least a CGLCUA Level 1 certificate or equivalent. The captains, not those umpires, judge the fitness of ground, weather and light.
Your custody of the ball: keep the match balls whenever play isn't in progress, inspect the ball periodically and irregularly during play, and take it at the fall of each wicket, at drinks and at any other break. Each team must supply 6 used spare balls of the approved type.
