- Game length: 60 minutes, in four 15-minute quarters (Rule 5.1.1).
- Quarter breaks: a 2-minute interval between the first and second quarters and between the third and fourth. Players serving a penalty stay in the penalty box (Rule 5.2.1).
- Halftime: a 12-minute intermission between the second and third quarters. Teams may leave the bench areas, and penalized players may join their team but must return to the penalty box before the third quarter starts (Rule 5.2.2).
- Ends: at the end of each quarter, including sudden-death periods, teams change ends (Rule 5.2.3).
- Late start: a team that fails to go on the floor and start play within 5 minutes of being ordered to by the official forfeits the game, and the matter is reported on the game sheet or a special incident report (Rule 5.5.1).
Lacrosse Canada's Age and Stage Appropriate Modifications 2.0 set different period lengths for young age groups, for example 12-minute running-time periods for U7 and U9 and 10-minute periods for U5 (recommendations).
