Who appoints the third umpire in the SA20, and what is my jurisdiction?

Each Betway SA20 match has a Match Referee, two on-field umpires, a third umpire and a fourth umpire (the emergency on-field umpire), all appointed by SA20 from the Betway SA20 panels. Teams have no right to object to any appointment.
Every SA20 match is televised and every match has DRS. That means:
- you handle both umpire reviews and player reviews;
- you may use any replay, stump-microphone audio and the approved technology: HawkEye or VirtualEye ball-tracking, Real-Time Snickometer or UltraEdge, Hot Spot, and Zing LED wickets;
- an independent Betway SA20 Technical Officer is present at every match to assist you and protect the integrity of the DRS;
- SA20 must give you a separate room with access to the TV equipment and technology.
You are also the umpire who determines front-foot and back-foot No balls on every delivery, and you're responsible for counting each team's unsuccessful reviews.
These duties come from Appendix D (DRS and Third Umpire Protocol) of the Betway SA20 Season 4 Playing Conditions, effective December 2025. The Season 5 (2026/27) conditions hadn't been published when this was written.
