- Team managers
Team managers are responsible for inspecting the ground before the game to assess whether it is suitable and safe, using the AFL/Marsh Match Day Checklist (required for each ground check). The check is done before the first match of the day and again whenever the oval size or weather changes.
Other home-side duties:
- Padding must be secured around all fixed goal and behind posts before a match can start, and a stretcher must be at the ground.
- The ground is marked per the Laws, with a spectator line at least 2 m outside the boundary and 6 m behind the goals. The two Coaches Boxes are painted (or marked with cones), each at least 5 m from the interchange area, with 15 to 20 m between the boxes, and not in front of the spectator line.
- The Home Team Manager is responsible for the welfare of the umpires.
- The home team supplies the match ball (yellow, age-appropriate size), plus a timekeeper.
- Each venue must also have a Ground Marshal for the duration of play, who checks equipment including goal post padding, stretcher and siren.
