Before starting EA Steward education you must be at least 18 years old, be a current Member of Equestrian Australia of the correct category, and have a personal fitness level that lets you complete the practical requirements and duties.
To be accredited as an EA National Steward you must:
- attend an approved EA Steward Seminar of one day's duration
- pass an Open Rule Book Test on the rules of your discipline with at least 90%
- complete a Risk Management/Communication assessment
- competently complete 3 Shadow/Assistant Stewarding Experiences, supervised by a currently registered FEI Steward or an appointed Mentor
The course includes some face-to-face delivery and several units of self-paced study. On successful completion you are added to the Equestrian Australia Officials database.
EA says the entry point for officiating is the Officiating Essential Skills Course through the Australian Sports Commission's platform: https://www.sportaus.gov.au/coaches_and_officials/officials. Details at https://www.equestrian.org.au/officials-getting-started.
